Zusatzinfo/Inhalt
Introduction and Allegro was written in July 1983 for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Concert Band; commissioned by John Corley (Conductor Laureate) and premiered the work in 1984. On April 30, 2000 the MIT Concert Band with featured alumni members performed the piece again. Charles Marge, who performed the premiere as a student guest conducted the 2000 performance. Before passing the baton over to Marge, Corley announced that this was one of his most favorite pieces for concert band. These are the only two known performances of this piece. Thirty-two years after its conception, Editions BIM is publishing this piece for the first time, and it is an excellent piece that is appropriate for both advanced secondary-level school bands and university bands. The piece is programmatic and depicts the sunrise, sounds of the ocean and starting of the day, in Wellfleet, Massachusetts (Cape Cod Bay), where Lane spent his summers composing. The piece is very atmospheric, and lasts for approximately 8 minutes. Other concert band pieces by Lane that may be of interest are: Scherzo, Suite for Tenor Saxophone and Concert Band, and Air Apparent for flute solo and concert band
